A devastating accident on the Mankessim highway has resulted in the tragic death of one student and left two others injured.
According to Mr Kofi Kinata, an auto mechanic who works along the road, three children were crossing with their parent on their way to school.
Mr Kinata reported that after the parent had checked for oncoming traffic, she signalled the children to cross the road.
Unfortunately, a heavy truck loaded with sachet water, reportedly exceeding the speed limit, struck the children. Despite the driver’s efforts to avoid the collision, one child lost his life, while two others sustained injuries.
“Because of the load that was in the truck, it couldn’t stop. This same issue I have raised at the P.T.A. meeting, urging parents to escort their children across the road to school and back. However, many parents do not do that,” he stated.
The driver of the truck is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation into the cause of the accident. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
