President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to remember victims of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East in their prayers, as violence continues to claim innocent lives and deepen human suffering in the region.
Speaking at a Good Friday service at the Lighthouse Church on Friday, April 3, 2026, he described the situation in the Middle East as a painful irony, noting that the very land where Christ preached love and peace is now marked by conflict and violence.
“As we celebrate Easter, we cannot ignore the pain of our world, and so today our thoughts and prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in the Middle East and especially to the holy land, the birth place of our faith where conflict continues to claim innocent lives and deepen human suffering,” he said.
He stated that it is a painful irony that the land where Christ was born and preached love has become an epicenter of war and violence.
Mr. Mahama therefore called on Christians to use the Easter season to pray for peace across the Middle East, particularly in Israel, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran.
He added that Ghana continues to stand for peace, justice and human dignity and called for dialogue and restraint to achieve lasting peace in the region.
“So Ghana stands for peace, justice and human dignity and so we call for restraints, we call for dialogue, we call for a just and lasting peace that hatred cannot drive out hatred, the only thing that can drive out hatred is love,” he stated.
