The Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency, has described herself as the most down-to-earth individual in her constituency.
In an interview on Angel Morning Show on Monday, December 2, 2024, she dismissed claims of arrogance, explaining that such perceptions often arise when people misinterpret honesty and self-confidence.
“I am not arrogant,” she stated firmly. “I’ve served as the MP for Ablekuma West for 12 years, and no one can claim they came to me for help and I scared them off or insulted them. That has never happened.”
She added that while she is approachable and humble, she does not shy away from addressing wrongdoing. “If someone does something wrong, I won’t pretend it’s okay. I’ll confront them with the truth, and I think that’s where some people misunderstand me. If you don’t want to face that, then ensure you’re always on the right side when you’re dealing with me.”
The Minister stressed the importance of honesty in relationships and explained that her straightforward nature can sometimes be misconstrued.
“In our society, when you’re confident and stand your ground, some people label you as arrogant,” she observed. “But that’s not me. What you see is what you get—I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not.”
She further emphasized her humility, noting that her directness should not be mistaken for pride.
“I am the most down-to-earth person you could ever meet. I’m not arrogant; I’m just truthful and honest. However, if calling out wrongdoing is what some define as arrogance, then I will accept that label. But to me, it’s just about being real and standing by my values.”
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has been a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, representing her constituency for over a decade. Her remarks come amidst ongoing debates about the perceptions of political leaders and their interaction with the public.
