I’m surprised NDC still seeking additional parliamentary seats – Freddie Blay

Former National Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, says he is surprised that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite winning 182 out of the 275 seats in Parliament, is still pursuing additional seats.

The NDC, in the recently concluded December 7 general elections, won both the Presidential and Parliamentary races by a significant margin.

The NDC’s presidential candidate and Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, secured a decisive victory over his closest rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with a remarkable margin of 1,671,093 votes. In the Parliamentary race, the NDC initially claimed victory in 187 seats. However, after a re-collation exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC), the number of seats won by the NDC was reduced to 182.

Speculations suggest that some NDC Parliamentary candidates who lost their seats after the re-collation are planning to attend Parliament and occupy their seats despite the official results.

According to Elvisanokyenews, Freddie Blay expressed surprise if such an unfortunate incident occurs on the day of swearing-in for Members of the 9th Parliament.

“I’ll be surprised if, at the end of the day, when people have gone to court and the Electtoral Commission (EC) was ordered to do things this way, they say that for the rest, they will do something different from what the law has stated or what the judges have decided.

I don’t think justice can be denied, even if it means chaos. If justice is served, why not? Can you imagine the chaos this country would face if people claim that the EC declared one person successful and then changed their mind, even under court instructions? Someone will surely object,” he asserted.

Freddie Blay further urged everyone to respect the laws of the country to preserve democracy, however he then stated that if given the chance, the NDC would likely claim victory for all 275 parliamentary seats in the country.

“Let’s have respect for each other. If you believe in democracy, I’m surprised that the NDC, having won 187, and still pursuing two or three more seats,” Freddie Blay said.
