Residents of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo have issued a 60-day ultimatum to the government, demanding urgent intervention on the deteriorating road network in the area.

This follows a mass protest through Somanya and Odumase-Krobo, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, where a petition was submitted.

Among the many neglected roads in the enclave, the protesters highlighted the busy 13-kilometer Somanya–Kpong highway as a major concern.

The protest was organized by youth groups including Kloma Hengme, the Dangme Youth for Development (DYFD), and Adolf Nomo.

Speaking to journalists, the protesters expressed deep disappointment over the neglect by successive governments, particularly the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which they have supported consistently since 1992.

According to them, their greatest frustration stems from the presence of key government appointees from the area, yet development remains stagnant.

They added that the leadership of Kroboland has, over the years, taken them for granted, a situation they described as “insult and disrespect.”

Some placards read: “Kloma Maa Ya No Kokooko” translating to “Kroboland will develop by hook or crook,” alongside messages such as “We will not allow election-time roads anymore.”

“Fix Akuse to Asutuare road, The President appointed many but they’re failing us, We can’t fix our families when the roads are bad,” the placards inscriptions added and indicated enough of the neglect.

President of the Dangme Youth for Development Association, Simon Teye, stated furiously, “We have been voting for the NDC party for years and I think this is the right time to cry unto the President to come to our aid.”

He added that the poor road conditions are taking a toll on everyone living along the stretch, citing deep potholes and thick layers of dust.

“Almost every citizens here is suffering,” Mr. Teye said, mentioning motorists, schoolchildren, traders, health workers, and others.

The group presented their petition to President John Dramani Mahama through local stakeholders, calling for swift government action to address their pressing concerns.

In the petition, they gave the government a 60-day ultimatum to respond or face further civil actions in the coming months.

Receiving the petition on behalf of the President, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo, John Atter, assured them it would be forwarded to Mr. Mahama through the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.
