A Deputy National Field Director for the United Party (UP), Afia Korankyewaa, stated that the third term agenda is a significant trap set for President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, December 11, 2025, she emphasized that it is important to understand the origins of the third term debate, claiming that it is a trap for the President.

According to her, if President Mahama goes back on his word, it will reflect poorly on his leadership, given the sensitivity of the issue.

She further urged the President to stand firm, asserting that he should not have second thoughts or be swayed by any charades.

Korankyewaa warned that if he does change his position, it would confirm all the rumors circulating about him. She proposed that the President should assist the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in developing a transition plan, referring to Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng as an example.

“It will validate the rumors that you make promises and fail to keep them,” she said. “I plead that he stands his ground; instead of pursuing a third term, he should help the NDC establish a transition plan and groom someone to succeed him when he leaves office.

“When Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng didn’t win the elections, he didn’t keep his plans to himself; he shared them with President Mahama. So, anything the President wishes to achieve but doesn’t complete shouldn’t be the end of his plans. He can document them and pass them on to his next successor,” Korankyewaa said.
