Accra Hearts of Oak captain and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has earned a late call-up to the Black Stars camp for the international friendly against Mexico.
He replaces Gidios Aseako, the Dreams FC stopper who was initially named in coach Carlos Queiroz’s 23-man squad.
In a statement, the Ghana Football Association confirmed the development but did not provide reasons for Aseako’s withdrawal.
“Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been called up to replace Gidios Aseako for the friendly against Mexico,” the GFA stated.
Asare, who has 11 caps for the Black Stars, will now travel with the team for the international friendly scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026.
He made his Black Stars debut in March 2025 against Chad following consistent performances for Hearts of Oak in the GPL, where he established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper under former coach Otto Addo.
