Survivors of the June 3 flood and fire disaster has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to come to their aid with long awaited support deemed them.
Chairman of a group calling itself June 3rd Flood and Fire Victim Association (FFVA), Thomas Sakyi, said eleven years after the tragedy in 2015, successive governments keep neglecting them.
Speaking to the media at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Mr. Sakyi recounted that the incident has not only left them with painful experiences but also unbearable struggles.
According to him, many victims continue to suffer extreme hardship, with some unable to afford food or medicine.

He lamented that survivors are often rejected by successive government appointees and stakeholders whenever they seek assistance.
“The stigma alone kills us”, adding that “the loss of property and livelihoods has left many in despair,” he added.
Chairman Sakyi explained that he faces constant pressure from members of the association to secure compensation from the government, but all efforts have proven futile.
He stressed that some victims have even lost their lives in the years following the incident due to neglect and lack of support.
He appealed directly to President Mahama, saying, “Eleven years on, nothing has changed. My people are dying because they cannot afford medicine; we need urgent intervention.”
