The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Amasaman communicator, Daniel Nortey from all media appearances and public engagements in the name of the party until further notice over his remarks on the alleged sexual abuse involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the party’s Communication Directorate expressed serious concern and displeasure over comments made by Mr Nortey during a televised discussion on the allegations.
The Directorate said the remarks risked trivialising the allegations and undermining the seriousness with which cases of sexual abuse must be treated.
The party reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, particularly those involving the safety, dignity and welfare of children.
It also acknowledged Mr Nortey’s unreserved apology for his comments but stressed the need for responsible public commentary on sensitive matters.
According to the Directorate, discussions involving allegations of sexual abuse must be guided by responsibility, sensitivity and respect for due process, rather than being reduced to partisan debate.
The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
The NDC further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting women and children, promoting accountability and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are handled with the seriousness they deserve and in accordance with the law.
