The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an alert warning of thunderstorms approaching the coastal and middle sectors of the country this afternoon.
The Agency says a band of moderate rain-bearing clouds has been observed over the Gulf of Guinea, moving towards the coastline.
This system, according to GMet, is expected to increase cloudiness and produce thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall of varying intensities along the coastal areas, and is likely to trigger the development of rain-bearing clouds and thunderstorms over the inland and forest zones.
The rainfall activity is expected to commence between 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Areas to be affected include Greater Accra, Volta, Central, Eastern, Western, and Ashanti Regions.
GMet has advised the public to avoid taking shelter under trees and weak structures, while motorists should reduce speed, use headlights, and avoid crossing flooded roads or low-lying bridges.
The Agency further cautioned that those in flood-prone or riverside communities, particularly near Dambai and along the Oti River, should stay alert for further updates.
GMet has urged the public to stay updated with official information from the Agency, adding that in an emergency, the public should contact NADMO on 0302 964 884 / 0291 913 077 or dial 112.
