The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has expressed appreciation to former President Mahama for declaring an additional public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to him, the move will help address differences in fasting periods and reinforce unity among citizens.
Speaking to the press on Friday, March 20, 2026, Baba Jamal said the holiday will resolve an earlier problem where some Muslims observed 29 days of fasting while others observed 30.
“We thank the former President for adding one holiday to Eid-ul-Fitr because it used to be a problem, because some fast for 29 days, some fast for 30 days, it used to be a problem,” he said.
He emphasized that with the two holidays given by the President, whoever fasted for 30 or 29 days can still celebrate Eid in peace and harmony.
Baba Jamal also highlighted the importance of unity and peace in the country, noting that Christians and Muslims invite each other to their respective celebrations, promoting a sense of togetherness.
“This is a rare opportunity that Muslims and Christians must all accept and practicalise in our lives so that we will continue to have a peaceful country,” he stated.
Baba Jamal wished all Muslims in the country a happy Eid-ul-Mubarak, saying that through Eid, they will enjoy the blessings of Allah for the country.
