A swift intervention by officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Gambaga prevented potential damage to properties belonging to the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, when the crew responded to a crown fire along the Nalerigu-Walewale highway at Boku.
The blaze, reported shortly after noon, was brought under control within minutes after the GNFS team arrived. In a statement, the Service confirmed that the fire was contained and completely extinguished.
It explained that the fire had engulfed a tree that threatened to collapse onto high-tension cables and the highway, posing risks of power disruption and road accidents.
According to the statement, management of the Gambaga Fire Station has since commenced collaborative efforts with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Forestry Commission to responsibly fell the affected tree to prevent future accidents.
