I’d invest in ‘Ashawo’ than pay to watch Ghana football – Angel Sports Journalist

Controversial sports journalist with Angel FM and TV, Listowel Daniel Mensah, says he would not hesitate to spend on commercial sex workers, commonly known as ‘Ashawo,’ than pay to watch Ghanaian football at a stadium.

According to the outspoken media personality, local football is no longer attractive, making it unworthy of patronizing.

Mr. Mensah pointed out that football in Ghana has become an avenue for hooliganism and a death trap rather than a sport.

Therefore, he would, any day, prefer walking into a commercial sex worker’s joint and paying handsomely to satisfy his desires.

“I’ve always maintained that rather than paying to watch a Ghana League match, I’d prefer to go to a commercial sex joint and pay to have fun.

“Yes, I’d rather invest in them [sex workers] because risking your precious life at a stadium in the name of watching football in Ghana isn’t worth it,” he told Kofi Owusu Jerry on Monday’s edition of Angel Floodlight Sports.

He defended his stance by citing the untimely death of Nana Yaw Frimpong ‘Pooley,’ an Asante Kotoko supporter who was stabbed to death at a Ghana Premier League match in Nsuatre.

When asked by the host if his statement was an indictment of the country’s football scene, he responded, “No,” adding that the persistent hooliganism at match venues justifies his claim.

The former Atinka FM journalist further cautioned that he would not encourage any of his relatives, particularly loved ones, to attend matches in Ghana, as he believes the environment is unsafe for football enthusiasts.
