We’ll defend ourselves in subsequent elections if police can’t protect us – NPP’s Ama Daaku

Odike

Leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addai Odike, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for abandoning its intellectual foundations in favor of violent political behavior.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, July 21, 2025, Odike expressed concern over what he described as a troubling shift in the party’s operational character.

“NPP has lost their traditional way of doing things. For example, previously the NPP were coolly and calmly collected in how they execute their things. But currently they have swapped their intellectuals for the NDC’s ‘buga buga,’ to wit violence.” Odike asserted.

He suggested that this change represents a deviation from the party’s disciplined past and further pointed to the emergence of aggressive frontliners within the NPP, stating.

“And the frontliners have become violent. It’s mind-boggling because it remains unknown how they managed their way into the NPP with such behavior. So those with NPP’s traditional core have relegated themselves, sitting back to watch.”

When pressed by the host to name individuals, Odike declined, saying, “You as journalist know them by their organizational behavior as we speak now, so I’m not the one to mention names.”

Citing former President John Mahama, Odike referenced past remarks attributing violent tendencies to the NDC, the presidential hopeful argued that the dynamic has since changed.

NPP accuses NDC government of “fiddling” with anti-flood interventions as June 29 rains hit Accra

“Sometimes ago, John Mahama stated that when it comes to unleashing violence, no party comes clear the NDC. But at the moment, that trait has been swapped. Yes, they have swapped it.

“The NPP has now become violent, and they must do everything possible to ensure that they get rid of such behavior being characterized in the party,” he added.

Odike also highlighted internal tensions within the NPP, noting, “Camps within the party are so entrenched that failure to rally behind one or making comments that don’t augur well with another camp invites attack.”
