President Mahama appoints new Customs boss

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)

The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the GRA on Monday, February, 23, 2026, takes effect immediately due to his professional three decades of services in revenue mobilization, border security, and trade facilitation at the Authority.

“His appointment as Ag. Commissioner of the Customs Division reflects a career defined by integrity, operational excellence, and strategic leadership,” the statement noted.

Mr. Kanor’s leadership to the GRA contributed significantly to improvement in border security, revenue collection, and compliance within the international trade environment.

“Prior to his appointment, he served as the Officer in Charge of Port Operations, where he oversaw critical Customs functions including enforcement of customs laws, revenue collection, and trade facilitation,” the statement added.

Over the course of his career, he has held key positions, including Sector Commander at the Kotoka International Airport and Wa Collections, as well as Chief Revenue Officer in several operational areas.

Leading to improved revenue performance and enhanced national security, Mr. Kanor spearheaded intelligence-led operations that curtailed smuggling activities and exposed invoice falsification.

“In these roles, he spearheaded intelligence-led operations that curtailed smuggling, uncovered invoice falsification schemes, and disrupted criminal syndicates involved in vehicle identification,” the Authority indicated.

Mr. Kanor has played an instrumental role in modernization initiatives within the Customs Division, bringing electronic systems and strategic reforms that reduced cargo clearance.

The Authority recognized his expertise in strengthening Customs administration and contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.
