The enthusiasm of Ghanaians in celebrating the country’s 69th Independence Day should be credited to President John Dramani Mahama for his prudent economic management, according to Godwin Mahama Ayaba.
Mr. Ayaba, Corporate Communications Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), believes the enthusiasm and acceptance surrounding the event was remarkable.
He added that such gesture reflects the improved economic system under the incumbent government.
“If for a long time we did not get this acceptability and euphoria around it and today it is not blackstars going to play but Ghana independence celebration, it tells you that their economic system is back,” he highlighted.
He emphasized that the good state of the economy has made Ghanaians feel more at ease, pointing that jerseys were sold for 500 cedis and 700 cedis.
He questioned how someone without financial means could afford a jersey priced at 500 or 700 cedis.
Mr. Ayaba recounted the previous expenses used in previous years in the Independence Celebration comparing it to expenses used in President Mahama’s time in office.
“Independence day celebration in 2023, at Ho cost Gh¢13.7 million for just one day, In 2024, the expenditure rose to Gh¢15 million, however, since President John Dramani Mahama took office, he has been prudent with spending.
“In 2025, the expenditure dropped to Gh¢1.5 million, which is only 10% of what was spent in 2024, remarkably, in 2026, even with no changes in the economic conditions, the celebration budget remained at Gh¢1.5 million,” he said on Monday, March 9, 2026, on Angel TV.
He reiterated, that this point out to every reason to applaud His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his prudent stewardship.
