The Western Regional Forestry Office in collaboration with the Takoradi District Office of the Forestry Commission, has arrested four suspected armed men for invasion of the Subri River Forest Reserve in connection with practices of illegal mining.
According to a report by Erastus Asare Donkor, the suspects were arrested on Friday, March 27, 2026, in a sensitisation exercise.
In a post on his Facebook wall, he reported that the suspects were providing security for illegal miners in the Subri River Forest Reserve.
His report continued that the four had besieged the Jerusalem and Wassa Nkran portions of the Subri River Forest reserve and had started construction of makeshift structures to initiate the destruction of a significant portion of the reserve.
The Western Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Nana Poku Bosompim said, the rapid response team from Takoradi was first dispatched to the scene but was outnumbered, necessitating reinforcement to control the situation and make arrests.
The team seized four pump-action guns and totally immobilised one excavator found in the forest, Mr. Donkor reported further.
