Aspiring National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, will begin his nationwide campaign tour in the Volta Region on Monday, November 2, 2026.
In a statement signed by the ‘Akwasi Opong-Fosu for Chairman’ (AOF4C) Campaign Team, the decision to begin in the Volta Region is in recognition of the region’s historic loyalty, sacrifices and immense contributions to the growth and electoral successes of the NDC.
The statement noted that the move also acknowledges the region’s strategic importance to the future of the party.
The tour is intended to engage party stakeholders, listen to their concerns and share Dr. Opong-Fosu’s vision of consolidating the gains, protecting the achievements and legacy of President John Dramani Mahama and positioning the NDC to retain power in 2028 and beyond.
It will bring together regional and constituency executives, delegates, branch executives, party elders, cadres, former and current Members of Parliament, former and current government appointees and other key stakeholders.
Through these interactions, the campaign hopes to build consensus around a stronger, more united and inclusive NDC guided by the 3Vs, Votes, Voice and Viability, ensuring that grassroots members are recognised, heard and economically empowered.
The team described Dr. Opong-Fosu as representing the leadership experience the NDC needs at this critical moment. It said as a founding member of the party, former Member of Parliament, Minister of State and accomplished public administrator, he understands the party’s foundations, its grassroots structures and the demands of political leadership.
His proven experience, institutional knowledge and commitment to party unity make him the obvious choice to lead the NDC in consolidating its gains, safeguarding its political future and securing victory in 2028 and beyond, the statement added.
