The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has kicked against the newly laid instrument, Public Election Regulation 2020, saying it can negatively affect the 2020 elections slated for December.

According to him, he foresees  danger looming ahead since the new instrument of the Electoral Commission which was laid in Parliament on Friday, 3rd July, 2020 by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on behalf of the Commission would cause confusion in the 2020 elections.

The Minority Leader identified a contradiction between the newly laid instrument which replaces CI 94. He said the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections of Ghana is likely to be run on a provisional voter register and not a certified final register.

Per his interpretation, the new election regulation defines a registered voter  as “a person whose name appears on the provisional voter’s register not as it was in CI 94 on a certified final register”.

“This means that, the EC is running behind time and it is running for time and want to hide behind this new instrument, should the compilation of the register delays, the provisional register would be used,” Haruna made the Revelations at a press briefing he held at Parliament Friday afternoon.

“What the implementation and the ramifications would be on the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, your guess is as good as mine, it also means that, nominations for both presidential and parliamentary candidates would be on a provisional voter register but not certified final register”.

Mr. Haruna Iddrisu called on the media to continue exposing the gabs and the lapses in the on-going new voter register exercise for the betterment of all.
