The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, has urged Ghana to align its policies, institutions and private investments to lead in the emerging global economy driven by climate resilience and sustainability.
Speaking on the theme, “Decoding Policy and Regulation for the Next Economy,” Mr. Issifu said international regulations and sustainability standards are reshaping how economies produce, trade, invest and create jobs.
“The next economy is already taking shape. It will increasingly reward countries and businesses that can combine economic competitiveness with climate resilience, environmental responsibility, technological innovation, and credible sustainability performance,” he said.
Mr. Issifu said Ghana’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) will only matter if they are integrated into national development priorities, sector policies, public investment and private-sector decisions.
“Commitments alone do not deliver transformation,” he stated.
He said his Office is working to harmonize climate priorities across government, break institutional silos, mobilize climate finance and turn ambitions into bankable investments.
He called for a unified response across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), since climate change affects agriculture, energy, industry, transport, water, finance and health.
“We must move from fragmented interventions to coordinated implementation; from isolated projects to programmes capable of delivering national impact; and from climate ambition to measurable results,” he urged.
