Ghana’s Black Maidens defeated Argentina 5-4 on penalties in their Round of 16 clash at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday.
The Maidens drew 1-1 in regulation time after Jessica Appiah Asamoah’s first-half strike was cancelled out by the South Americans in the 86th minute.
The Ghanaian side finished the game with 10 players but converted all five penalties, while Argentina missed their second kick to hand Ghana a 5-4 victory in the shootout.
The Maidens have, therefore, qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in eight years, where they will face the winner of the Japan-Kenya clash.
