Senior Spokesperson for the Movement of Change, Yaw Buaben Asamoah has opined that the greediness of Ghanaian politicians has contributed to the country’s failed attempt to fight the practice of illegal mining.
He described them as “greedy” and noted that they were the financiers behind the illegal mining activities also known as galamsey.
Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS), Mr. Asamoah observed that though the mining activities began in the Gold Coast era, the post independence era has worsened matters as carrying out the practice has been done improperly under the supervision of Ghanaian leaders.
“These politicians have wrecked the country with their greediness and selfishness, they have their men involved in these activities, including the importation of the excavators, employing the Chinese and Nigel citizens to work at the mining sites,” he said.
He urged the general public to take full advantage of the voting process to pay these politicians back for failing the country.
“We the citizens should punish these politicians through our ability to vote. Political parties have devastated lands and rivers.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and National Patriotic Party( NPP), use the funds for their purposes, If gold is not properly mined, why have laws been enacted to protect the forest and the forest reserves.”
He reiterated, “The people with power are the ones involved in the galamsey activities.”
